A landmark shop has been demolished after almost 40 years on the same spot.

Ransom Household Stores, in Ann Street, Brighton, has been run by the same family for the past four decades.

But the increasingly unstable state of the building has now forced the business to move and on Sunday the shop, next to St Bartholomew’s Church, was knocked down.

But the shop will continue to trade just a few yards down the street.

Owner Warren Ransom said: “It got to the point where it was going to be unsafe and that’s when we had to move.

“I was surprised we managed to fit everything into this new space as it’s a lot smaller, but we’ve got used to it now and so have our customers.
