SO IT seems the prospect of a travellers’ site on the A259 at Newhaven is getting closer to reality (The Argus, October 21).

It has been earmarked as one of two possible sites out of a possible 14 – the other 12 found to be “totally unsuitable” by Lewes District Council.

This is the exact same council which, during an election campaign when there was press coverage on this, issued a straight denial that there was any intention to put a site there.

I actually recall seeing a spokeswoman for the council on television categorically denying there was any likelihood of this happening.

One has to ask, what else can be thrown at Newhaven? It is obviously regarded as the dumping ground for an incinerator and anything else that no one else wants.

I urge the residents of Newhaven to make their feelings known.

There is a full town council meeting on November 1, where Councillor Chris Bradshaw will be presenting a draft response. This will be put before the council. Don’t let this creep in by stealth.

WITH regards to a story in The Argus (October 20), in which ex mayor of Telscombe Cliffs Marina Pepper protested over the eviction of travellers from Dale Farm, I have a question.

If a large group of travellers set up an illegal caravan encampment in her garden for an unlimited period, what would she do?
