A taxi driver was robbed of a “significant” amount of money after picking up a party of four men.

The driver was threatened with a knife or knife handle during the incident in South Way, Newhaven, shortly after 2.20am yesterday.

It is understood he suffered an assault and the men fled the scene. At the time of going to press no arrests had been made.

A Sussex Police spokesman said the driver had picked up the men from an address in Brighton before they robbed him.
