A university lecturer has been named one of 11 “sustainability” champions.
Paul Norman, 48, of Hartington Road, Brighton, was given the honour by EDF Energy for his work in setting an example to others in reducing his carbon footprint.
He is now in with a chance to win £10,000 which he would use to give the Hanover Centre in Southover Street, Brighton an eco-makeover.
As well as promoting carbon-reduction in his own household, Paul is involved with environmental group, Hanover 10:10, which promotes fun and educational activities in the area.
He has also replaced his large petrol-fuelled car with a small diesel-fuelled vehicle and travels to work by bike or public transport whenever possible.
To claim the prize he will soon begin a campaign to encourage people to think about how they can make the UK greener in the run-up to the London Olympics. Members of the public will be able to vote at www.teamgreenbritain.org heroes from spring and the winner will be announced in July.
