Albion's £36 million plans to push for Premiership

Brighton and Hove Albion officials hope expanding their stadium and building a new training facility will prepare the club for a push for the Premier League.

Today The Argus can exclusively reveal the designs for the club’s proposed £22 million training ground at Lancing bosses believe will turn out the next generation of Albion stars.

The state-of-the-art facilities – inspired by top clubs across the country – will lay the foundations for what chief executive Martin Perry described as “an assault on the Premier League”, alongside the expan- sion of American Express Community Stadium.

The club has sent plans to Brighton and Hove City Council for an extra 8,000 seats to be added at the Amex, as well as a new luxury suite, more corporate boxes and new television facilities.

Albion take on Southampton today desperate for a win to take the club back into the top half of the Championship and Mr Perry said the £36 million proposals marked an exciting time in its history.

And he called on fans to back the club’s proposals with the same enthusiasm as they backed the Seagulls’ long-running bid for a new ground.

Read the full story and the view the plans in The Argus today.

It's all very encouraging. All we need now is a team capable of getting into the premier league and a manager capable of building such a team. We seem to be a long way off from having either of those two things.

club will not allow stadium to be empty, the 5000 seats going in next summer will produce 7 million plus.. to fill those club will bring in big name signings... as for the academy.. expect a clearout and new coaching staff.

I just hope these 'big name signings' are are of a higher quality than the dross the present manager has bought since the summer. It would be a huge step forward if new coaching staff included a new manager.

I bet that moan made you feel really good didn't it?!

"dross"?? What on earth are you on about!!? We brought in some quality players and just need 3/4 more including a new keeper and the replacements for Bennett and Murray we badly need. I do believe Poyet needs to adjust his thinking a little bit on the style of play because the passing the ball between keeper and defender thing just isn't cutting it in the champ!

How you can be so negative is beyond me. Are you saying nothing but promotion to the Premier league is good enough this year?!! Ridiculous.

dont think its completely unfounded, Gus has signed several players who have no defined position.. Buckley, Hoskins, Vincelot.. those three are good players.. but are they certain starters in one position?

You really think that Vicente, Harley and Hoskins are good signings? Promotion is a complete non starter and I didn't really expect it, but a relegation dog fight is a very real possibility. Considering the amount of money that has been spent on players this is not acceptable. This, together with the quality players who have been allowed to leave; Davies, Sandaza, Murray, Crofts, Elliot and Poyet's seeming inability to sign decent replacements and a truly dismal run of results then I think questioning the present manager's tenure is perfectly in order.

It's not really that the players are not of the required standard, as I feel the 'problem' lies in the formation Gus wants us to play. He seems to be using a derivation of the Zona Mista formation, itself a derivation of Hellenio Herrerra's catenaccio style of play. We play a flat back four, with a defensive midfielder in front, usually Bridcutt, then a central holding midfielder, which started out as Dicker, now perm one from four (?), with another midfielder just off this one. Add a wide man/winger on the right, sometimes Noone, then an out-and-out front man, ie CMS, with another forward lying just a little deeper, and it is almost Zona Mista in entirety. The system may have worked in late 70's, early 80's in Italy, indeed bringing Italy the World Cup in '82, but the pace of play then was a lot slower, and the previously mentioned players in the thread are probably decent enough, just finding it difficult to learn this new and alien formation. We started well in this division, but Championship players are a bit more canny, and once they've realised we are playing this ultra defensive formation, they use their pace and guile to overrun us. It is not surprising we've had the fewest shots on goal in the division, and if you don't shoot, you don't score, as we're finding...

Poyet has done a fantastic job at the club despite the recent disappointing results of late but the Championship is a tough league to be in. A new stadium is a great start but the club needs better players to compete in the Premier League and that will require a lot of cash.

Calm down for gawds sake. A couple of wins and everyone who is moaning will stop. The table is very close at the top and it's only a couple of weeks since we were in a play off position. We'll be back there soon if things go our way. Is anyone saying Mancini isn't up to the job after Sunderland beat them? Get behind the team and stop grizzling.

I think Albion just short of a few high quality championship players. At Coventry we actually played well 90% of the time but the difference all season is players with a spark to change the game. I saw some positives - Lua Lua will be an asset. JFC showed passion. Problems do remain in my opinion - Ankergen looks terrible against the crosses in the Championship - CMS needs to start scoring - how long can we wait - at the last game he was not sharp enough. Interestingly the players we bought were probably game changers - its just they are never 100% fit or playing in a settled side. The bookings at Coventry were ridiculous. Noone had the beating of the full back but then got fouled time after time. Navarro (took free kick too quick/dissent ?) and Dunks non challange were pounced on by ref. Players like noone / buckleyneed protection from ref but with our reputation too busy booking BHA players for stupid stuff.

I think that you will find that great keepers are rare. Even De Gea at Man U has a tendancy to flap about, as he showed this weekend.

Casper is proven at this level and like with all humans, can improve.

If a fantastic keeper became available then fair enough but not just for the sake of change.

You get one life - why waste it?
Thanks for your input. I presume you have no interest in football but opened this page, maybe read the comments and added one yourself. Surely you would viewing that as a "waste" of life.

And yes, fretlassbass, let's have some input from you after the result. The boys did brilliantly, including the much maligned Harley - came on, took a corner, goal. One assist in one minute. Not bad in my book.

One more question for you. In your current profession, did you know everything after a couple of years, and never make a mistake? Gus is learning what to do, and also what not to do, so cut him some slack. Considering our position some before he took over, I would say he is very much the man for the future.

Exciting times ahead, and I expect the Amex to be rocking with 30,000 in 2012/2013.

With the new seating etc how long will it take to get out after the match The whole traffic plan will have to be re-written and not before time

This is great news for our club and sets us apart as the biggest club in the area.

I've also heard good things about some Jan/Summer targets. Put it this way, we won't need to worry about getting bums on seats next season.

Trust me

club will not allow stadium to be empty, the 5000 seats going in next summer will produce 7 million plus.. to fill those club will bring in big name signings... as for the academy.. expect a clearout and new coaching staff.

I just hope these 'big name signings' are are of a higher quality than the dross the present manager has bought since the summer. It would be a huge step forward if new coaching staff included a new manager.
you complete two bob mug, Kaz, CMS, Vincelot, Calde, what dross they are. Why don't you do us all a favour and comment on the South London Pikies site

Who expected us to come up and get straight in the play-offs? We're not far off. My main concern is discipline...the worst in the the division, and we've been punished for it recently with suspensions. Five red cards and 58 yellows is way too much!
