A murder inquiry has now been launched after a 25-year-old man was stabbed to death.
Ten people - including a 13-year-old - have been arrested after Darren Croxton, from Hailsham, died following a public order incident in Bramble Drive, Hailsham on Sunday.
Police and emergency services attended the scene at around 4.30pm and Mr Croxton collapsed in the road with serious injuries.
He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital but despite efforts to save his life he unfortunately died at around 7.20am today.
Detective Chief Inspector Jeff Riley from Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team said: "This is a tragic incident and involved a number of young people.
"We are in the early stages of the investigation and are trying to establish the exact circumstances that lead up to the victim receiving theses fatal injuries.
"A police cordon remains at the scene whilst the investigation continues."
Wealden District Commander, Dick Coates said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this incredibly difficult time.
"Local officers are present in the area since yesterday and will continue to do so. I would urge the local community to please come forward with any worries and concerns they have and don't hesitate to talk to our officers.
"This was an isolated incident involving people who were known to each other and I have no reason to believe that the local community are at any further risk.
"I have every faith that the people of Hailsham will come forward and assist detectives with their inquiries."
If you have any information that could help police with the investigation please call 101 quoting Operation Consul or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
