Police have now made 13 arrests in connection with the death of a young father who was stabbed in the groin during a pre-planned fight.

A 20-year-old man, from Hastings, was arrested this morning on suspicion of murder over the death of Darren Croxton, a Sussex Police spokeswoman said.

He joins a 17-year-old boy, who was arrested on Tuesday, and a 16-year-old boy, arrested on Monday, who are also both being questioned by detectives.

Mr Croxton, 25, was found collapsed in Bramble Drive, Hailsham, at about 4.30pm on Sunday, the spokeswoman said.

Detectives do not know the exact type of knife used but believe the blade was at least 4in long.

Mr Croxton, who lived in The Diplocks, Hailsham, and leaves a daughter, was pronounced dead at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton on Monday morning.

An 18-year-old man, who was arrested on Tuesday, and a 16-year-old boy, arrested on Monday, have both been bailed until February 22.

Five teenage boys, aged 13, two of 14, one 15 and a 16-year-old, who were held on suspicion of murder, have been ruled out of the inquiry. Three men, aged 20, 23 and 27, were also released from custody with no further action being taken. They are now being treated as witnesses, police said.

Detective Chief Inspector Jeff Riley said: “This is a fast-paced investigation and we are deploying a large amount of resources to bring whoever is responsible for this awful crime to justice. I would like to appeal once again to members of the public who have information, however insignificant they think it is, to contact my team of officers in confidence.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Sussex Police on 101, quoting Operation Consul, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
