War heroes who lost their sight have spoken about the charity that has been their lifeline.
As Ovingdean-based charity St Dunstan’s officially changes it’s name to Blind Veterans UK today, the brave sightless residents aged between 15 and 95 told how much it means to them.
Arthur Lowe, 90, has lived at the charity’s Ovingdean home for 13 years.
He was a Sergeant in the Royal Air Force and spent time in Burma, India and Thailand and lost his sight through disease.
He said: “It sounds as though I am shooting a line but I am not. It’s exactly the same as home.
“There is great food, great people, everyone knows everyone’s name.
“I can be as bone idle as I like.
“I moved from a beautiful home 13 years ago to another beautiful home.
Centre manager Helen Emerson said: “We think the new name really shows what we do.
“St Dunstan’s did not tell what we did but Blink Veterans UK does.”
