Adoptions levels have reached record highs.

West Sussex County Council said 50 children had been adopted in the county in the last year, the highest number since records began.

A further 41 special guardianship orders were also made over the course of the year which is when a permanent carer for a child is appointed from within their own family, fostering or friendship network.

It comes after a high-profile campaign to get more people to come forward and offer a permanent home for youngsters in need of care.

The local authority’s adoption service was judged as “good” with some “outstanding” features in an Ofsted inspection carried out at the end of January.

A drop-in session will take place from 10am to 4pm on June 27 at The Gattons Children and Family Centre in Royal George Road, Burgess Hill.
