An MP has called on the boss of Royal Mail to sort out postal services in his constituency “once and for all”.

Simon Kirby told the company’s chief executive, Moya Greene, his residents had “a right” to have their post delivered on time.

The MP for Brighton Kemptown also praised The Argus for the Sort It Out campaign which has piled pressure on Royal Mail managers to resolve the problems at the North Road delivery office.

Mr Kirby first wrote to Mrs Greene in March about “unacceptable”

delays after the company made cost-cutting changes to delivery routes, but complaints from customers continued.

Yesterday he said: “Residents of Kemp Town have a right to their post being delivered in a prompt manner. It is especially frustrating to hear of people who have been waiting for important documents which have arrived very late.”

Customer complaints about Royal Mail are continuing to be reported to The Argus.

Angry residents still waiting for late packages are backing our Sort It Out campaign to put pressure on bosses to tackle the delays.

Constance Anyon, a pensioner from Albert Road, is still waiting for her rent book three weeks after her landlord posted it.

The 80-year-old said: “It’s really worrying for me because it’s got all my financial details in there.

“I tried to call the Royal Mail but I couldn’t get hold of anyone. I have been here 40 years and I’ve never known it so bad.

“It’s so frustrating. These parcels are people’s property and I just don’t knowhowthey can get away with it.”

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: “We apologise to our customers who are experiencing delays.

“Extra staff have been put on duty in the office and postmen and women are continuing to work hard to ensure all mail is delivered on time.
