Gig goers have even more reason to lick their lips in anticipation of Big Beach Bootique 5 – the chance to get their mouth around a hot summer creation.

Partygoers at Fatboy Slim’s gigs at American Express Community Stadium on Friday and Saturday will be some of the first to sample a new pie featuring a smiley face, designed with Norman Cook in mind.

Brighton and Hove Albion’s regular pie suppliers, Worthing-based Piglet’s Pantry, has created a chicken and chorizo pastry to mark the landmark gig.

The pie also features smoked paprika, parsley, fresh herbs and garlic potatoes and even has a cheeky smile carved into its crust, mirroring the DJ’s famous smiley logo.

Around 2,500 of the new flavoured pies will go on sale at all the stadium kiosks throughout the concourses on both evenings, in Dick’s Bar and lounges at £3.50.

Piglet’s Pantry managing director Joanna Phillips said this week was one of the company’s busiest week with the back-to-back gigs, giving them additional storage problems to solve.

The pies were given the thumbs up by a tasting panel and had their first public airing at a Burgess Hill Football Club event last weekend after the firm responded to a last-minute SOS catering call from the club.

Mrs Phillips said: “Norman Cook is a great fan of our pies so this is the perfect opportunity to design a pie for his debut gig at the Amex.”

Norman will get his first chance to sample the new pie on Thursday when a special batch is sent to him and his technical team.

But it could be a one-off opportunity for fans to sample the new pies at the Amex.

Mrs Phillips said: “It depends on the club whether the pie will be available next season.

“We’re happy to come up with new flavours and the club is very supportive of that but we don’t want to have too many flavours on at one time.”

The pie makers picked up another accolade last week when they scooped a silver award in the best pie category at the Football Hospitality Awards voted for by fans online.

Albion walked away with the Championship choice award at the same ceremony held at the American Express Community Stadium last week while also receiving recognition in the green award.

Conferencing and events staffing manager Ruth Melton picked up a silver and praise from the Queen in|the special achievement category.
