Armed officers were called after a teenager threatened another man with an imitation gun.
The two youngsters, aged 18 and 16, were spotted arguing on Coxcomb Walk, Crawley, at 4.15pm on June 19.
The specialist officers were dispatched after the younger of the two pulled out an imitation gun.
Both were arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and bailed until June 25 pending further enquires.
Sergeant Andrew Burfoot, from Crawley Response Investigation Team, said: "We received calls from concerned members of the public that they heard lots of shouting and a firearm being produced during a confrontation between the two people out on the street.
"Concern was such that police, including firearms officers, were quickly dispatched to the location in order to secure the area, reduce any potential harm to the public and detain the suspects."
