A 96-year-old woman has died after suffering a suspected heart attack minutes before performing a charity abseil.
The woman was taking part in the fundraising abseil down Crawley Hospital wall for the West Sussex Association for the Blind 4SIGHT today.
She was standing at the top of the 70ft descent in her harness at just after noon when she suffered a "medical episode".
A fire crew from Crawley Fire Station were called to the scene to bring her down to the ground and paramedics were on hand to attempt resuscitation on her.
However, their attempts were unsuccessful and she was declared dead at the scene.
It is believed to have been her ninth attempt at a charity abseil.
