Disney has said they had no choice but take legal actions against a Brighton animation firm after customers complained they had been misled.

The world’s biggest cartoon company has asked Brighton-based Brightspark Productions Ltd to stop selling their films Braver and Tangled Up because the names and artwork bear too close a resemblance to Disney hits Brave and Tangled.

A spokeswoman for Disney said they had been told about Brightspark’s productions by customers who were upset after thinking they had bought the genuine Disney products..

She added that they had finally felt compelled to act when the Brighton firm renamed a film from 2005 around the time of Disney’s blockbuster’s cinema release.

In a statement Disney said: “People place great trust in the quality and creativity of Disney and when it appears that another company is causing confusion among Disney consumers, we will act to protect ourselves and the consumer.

"Disney believes that Brightspark has demonstrated a pattern of misleading consumers with numerous releases that confuse and undermine the trust those consumers have in Disney."

'...they had been mislead.'?

Using readers to sub-edit again. The word is misled.

Good, why do people feel the need to rip off others work and then complain when they get caught, sue them for loss of profit

Shameful.....however Both DVD covers are far better & more imaginative than the originals which probably upset them the most

The funniest bit is that the Argus, while showing you what is claimed to be copyright infringement, is offering to sell you their photo of Disney and Brightspark's copy-written cover artwork. Maybe both companies should request a cease and desist ...

Thanks for mentioning that. The 'buy' link shouldn't be there and isn't enabled on the story.

The image is not for sale.

I'm no fan or friend of Disney, but if Brightspark changed their films' names and covers to look like Disney's, fair enough.
