Labour has retained their East Brighton seat following yesterday's (October 18) by-election.
Chaun Wilson was declared the winner with 1,596 votes just before 11.45pm last night.
Runner up was the 18-year-old Conservative Joe Miller with 531 votes.
Turnout was 26.21% with 2859 ballot papers including 1105 postal votes.
The Green Party’s Carlie Nicole Goldsmith came third with 456 followed by UKIP’s Sabiha Choudhury with 148.
Liberal Democrat candidate Felix Sokalski was next with 59 and last was Jon Redford from the Trade Unionists and Socialists Against Cuts with 55.
The by-election was called last month following the resignation of Labour councillor Craig Turton, who left the council due to ongoing health problems.
The ward’s other two representatives are Gill Mitchell, the Labour Group Leader and Warren Morgan, Labour’s deputy leader.
Coun Wilson said: “I'd like to thank the people of East Brighton who have expressed their confidence in me and I will work hard for all residents in the ward.”
Labour group leader, coun Gill Mitchell, added: “This is a great result for Labour and throughout the campaign people have clearly expressed their opposition to what the Tory Government is doing to their country and what Green Party policies are doing to the city.”
