A family butchers which has stood the test of time has been voted the vest in Sussex by Argus readers.

Graham Maides started as a butcher almost 50 years ago at the age of 15 for national chain Dewhurst in London Road.

Twenty years later he took over the site in London Road, Brighton, and named it M and B Meats.

It has been serving shoppers every since, surviving against all odds through financial crises, pandemics and declining high streets.

It is now the only butchers left in the London Road area.

The shop was voted the best in Sussex in The Argus's Your Favourite awards after we asked our readers to name their favourites.

"I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone that voted for us and continues to support us," Graham said.

"It means the world."

He said he aims to keep prices as low as possible despite shoppers spending less in the cost of living crisis.

"We plan on supplying our happy customers with top quality meet at great prices," said Graham.

"From our 99p trays to our buy one get one free offers there is something for all budgets."
