A man in a wheelchair was caught recording a video up a girl’s skirt in a shopping centre.

Peter Ankers was reported to the police after two girls saw him filming while they were in River Island clothes store in Churchill Square Shopping Centre in Brighton.

The 42-year-old pleaded guilty to outraging public decency when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Magistrates heard Ankers, of Foredown Road, Portslade, was in the shop on April 17 last year.

Two girls became suspicious after they noticed him in his wheelchair following them around the store.

He started filming up one of the girl’s skirts when they caught him. They ran out the shopping centre in search of the police.

An officer stopped him in his wheelchair as he attempted to get on a bus a short time later.

The officer looked at the footage on his phone and he was arrested.

Paul Edwards, prosecuting, told the court that various items were later found in his house, including two mobile phones, one containing seven videos of a similar nature.

Ankers, with black hair, glasses and wearing a pink polo shirt, appeared in court in his wheelchair.

Oliver Mackrell, defending, called for the magistrates to adjourn for a pre-sentence report due to the nature of the offence.

Steven Unwins, chairman of the magistrates, described the crime as “unpleasant”.

Adjourning the hearing, he said: “In the circumstances we rely on the probation service for a professional judgement.”

The court heard that Ankers has no previous convictions. He was bailed with the condition of not possessing any equipment capable of recording videos.

He will appear before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday January 28 for sentencing.
