A man has been sentenced to six years after being found guilty of rape in Brighton last year.

Arnand Rruci, 28, was found guilty in December of raping a woman, a 20-year-old from Brighton, at the flat he had been staying at in Old Shoreham Road on June 16.

Rruci, a car valeter and Albanian national, raped the woman after meeting her at Lola Lo's club in Brighton and took her back to the flat, before she managed to leave the address the following morning and raise the alarm.

Detectives worked hard to identify him and were able to trace him using CCTV images and the help of the club. Rruci was arrested on June 26 and charged on June 30 with rape.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of drugs supply, possession of cannabis and cocaine and was given three years in total for these offences at Lewes Crown Court on Thursday (January 22). He was given six years for two counts of rape, meaning he will spend nine years in prison

Detective Inspector Steve Warner said: "Rruci took advantage of an extremely vulnerable woman and we worked tirelessly to identify him and bring him to justice. He has now been sentenced to nine years behind bars and will be deported back to Albania when he is released.

"This type of offence is taken extremely seriously and we will always work with the victim to investigate what has happened and bring those responsible to the courts. We are pleased Rruci has been given this lengthy sentence and will be permanently removed from our city."
