A GOOD Samaritan who attempted to break up a fight between two men ended up with a broken jaw.

The 29-year-old victim was on the Lower Esplanade near the Coalition nightclub when he saw two men fighting.

He went to intervene but was punched in the face and head.

The man was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where it was discovered his jaw was broken in three places.

The assault happened on Saturday, August 6, sometime between 10pm and midnight during the Pride celebrations.

Police said the two men fighting were white, aged between 20 and 25, one was skinny and the other was of medium build. Both were wearing track suits.

Detective constable Sarah Townsend, of Sussex Police, said: "The victim tried to stop the two men from fighting but was then punched in an unprovoked attack by one of them.

"He has had to undergo surgery for his broken jaw, had three metal plates and six pins inserted to try and align it and he has suffered nerve damage and lost sensation in his bottom lip."
