THE REASON for a police car left parked running on zigzag lines at a zebra crossing has been revealed.

Questions were raised on social media as to why the vehicle was not legally parked in the High Street, Rottingdean, while schools were finishing.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said officers were called to a report of a fraud involving a pensioner at Lloyds Bank at around 3.10pm on Monday.

An 87-year-old man had gone into the bank and tried to transfer more than £6,000 after receiving a call from someone claiming to be from Lloyds.

The staff in the bank were suspicious and called the police.

Officers attended and took the man home. An investigation into the fraud has begun.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: “The call we received was a grade one call.

"We appreciate that parking on zigzag lines must have caused an inconvenience.

"We realise now that perhaps we could have parked elsewhere but our concern was getting to the bank quickly to prevent the crime taking place."
