An investigation has been launched after a fire broke out inside a church.
Firefighters were called to St John the Baptist Church in Bristol Road, Brighton, just after 9.30pm last night.
Crews discovered the fire had started on the ground floor and were at the scene for more than two hours.
It is not yet known how much damage was done.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: " A fire at a church in Brighton is being treated as arson.
"Police were alerted at 10.30pm on Thursday by fire service colleagues who had been called to John the Baptist Church in Bristol Road."
Fire and crime scene investigators are due to visit the scene this morning.
