RESIDENTS are being asked to sign up to a scheme to help stop antisocial behaviour.

Sussex Police’s Operation Blitz launches tonight, with officers deployed across the Lewes district in a bid to lower the crime rate, which has been prominent in towns across the area in recent months, in particular Peacehaven.

The operation, which will be in action every Friday and Saturday night, will see officers out in a van ready to get to reported crime scenes.

They have a direct phone number so anyone suffering from antisocial behaviour can speak to them directly rather than calling 101 or 999.

The force is now asking residents to sign up to the Stay In The Know email subscription service, where they will be kept up to date with any crimes committed in their area.

Police Community Support Officer Marion Keeton, of Sussex Police, said: “Once signed up, residents can then select ‘Community Interests’, click on ‘Switch to advanced mode’ at the bottom of the screen and then select ‘anti-social behaviour prevention’ as an interest.

“This will allow them to receive messages about where Operation Blitz is working in their area, any relevant updates and provide a contact telephone number for officers engaged in the operation. The more people we’re able to sign up, the better.”

Seaford and Newhaven will also be part of the operation.
