THOUSANDS of children had a taste of the countryside at the South of England Agricultural Society showground.

Youngsters from across the county were among pupils from 50 schools who attended Connect with the Countryside, where they met a range of farm animals, enjoyed food tasting and learned about the environment.

The children also buried a time capsule which captures a snapshot of living in the British countryside.

They chose to put their latest school newspaper, pictures, letter and poems about the countryside and their own artwork in the time capsule as well as a written piece with their views on what the countryside will look like in 50 years time.
