SPONSORED BY AVT Ltd Winner: Chris Hurcomb CHRIS Hurcomb is responsible for setting up programmes for 23 students currently accessing the Beacon Support Unit, which caters for students struggling with low self-esteem and those with special needs at Brighton Aldridge Community Academy.
He liaises with staff to ensure that the students have the correct work and tracks their behaviour so that they are making progress and are accepting responsibility for their actions in class.
Chris said: “It’s amazing – I feel really overwhelmed.
“It’s great to be recognised and it’s a fantastic feeling.”
As much as Mr Hurcomb helps the students at BACA, they play a vital role in his role as a teaching assistant.
He said: “I think it’s the students that spur me on.
“Seeing them achieve is such a nice feeling – it’s so rewarding.”
