Winner: Matthew Smith MATTHEW Smith is leaping head and shoulders above his opponents and is striving for more success.
He is the current Sussex under-15 long jump and high jump champion and current Sussex under-17 indoor long jump and high jump champion.
He has also smashed last year’s long jump record held at Blatchington Mill School for year nine boys by a long margin.
The athlete said: “This is pretty amazing actually, I didn’t expect it at all because of the good competitors against me so I’m just really glad I got it.”
With the athletics season under way, the youngster knows he needs to work on his game to reach the next level.
He said: “It’s going okay at the moment, but I need to just put a bit more training in to get my game up a bit more.
“I’m not really sure what the future holds at the moment, but I think I could go all the way if I wanted to.”
