Three students and a teacher from a Sussex college scooped major prizes at a national education awards ceremony.

The group from Midhurst Rother College walked away with trophies from the annual United Learning Best in Everyone Awards held at Surbiton High School in Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey.

There are 49 schools within the United Learning Group so these prestigious prizes are outstanding.

In his introduction, chief executive of the group, Jon Coles, said: “There are countless examples of students and members of staff doing exceptional things. “Our ethos is to bring out the ‘best in everyone’. “These awards celebrate that ethos and some of those who most embody it. Of the hundreds of worthy nominees selected by their schools because of their exceptional work and efforts we are celebrating those who have achieved the most, made the greatest progress and inspired their peers.”

The winners were Ted Murray of Year 10, who won the Pupil of the Year award, Year 8 student Aislin Boxall, who was named Top Design Technology Pupil and Jacob Calvo Penfold of Year 12 who was given the Top Physics Pupils accolade.

Hayley Kemp was also named as Inspirational Teacher of the Year.
