Fletching Cricket Club’s Under-12s made light work of the target set by Rottingdean in the Sussex Junior Cricket Festival Under-12 Division W Shield.

Batting first, Rottingdean scored 131-8 before the Fletching batsmen took the bowlers apart knocking off the target in just 22.4 overs at Falmer Road in Rottingdean.

Having won the toss, Archie Adam stuck the home team in to bat and backed up his decision by bowling his opposite number Henry Blackmore for 9.

All of the Rottingdean middle order got starts but weren’t able to kick on and make a big score which they desperately needed.

Both Jeffrey Kerr-Dineen and Tom Awdry were back in the pavilion for 11 after being run out and bowled respectively.

Joe Price looked in good form at the crease on his way to 22 before he fell to the bowling of Finn Tomlinson.

And Adam struck again to get rid of Angus Love who had also looked in touch for his 20.

Eleven was an unlucky number for Rottingdean as Alfie Crane was caught off the bowling of Stirling Brooks for the same score as two of his teammates.

Wicketkeeper Connor Bettsworth (7 not out) tried his best to anchor the innings, but with Christopher Ludkin and Jack Edwards dismissed around him, he and Isaac Sefton (3 not out) managed to nudge the score past the 130 mark.

In reply, Josh Bebb was the star of the show as he raised his bat having lost his opening partner Louis Bebb for 0 when he was bowled by Joe Price.

Josh Bebb batted beautifully for a fluent 57 before he was bowled by Price.

Number three Miles Rothery ably supported his opener making 25 and was looking in good nick until Price struck again for his third wicket.

Adam put in a captain’s performance as he saw his team home with an impressive 31 alongside Tomlinson who finished 7 not out.

If there was a negative for Fletching, it was that they gifted the opposition too many runs as the bowlers racked up 34 wides.
