DITCHLING Cricket Club's Under-13s claimed a 28-run victory beating Burgess Hill in the South Area Young Cricketers League Under-13 – Division Two.

Ned Dean shone with the bat with an unbeaten 25 to help Ditchling reach 136-6 in their 20 overs and – despite being gifted 39 extras – Burgess Hill could only manage 108.

Ditchling captain Hamish Ford won the toss and decided to have a bat.

Dean and his opening partner Joseph Grant got their team off to a flyer with the run rate rattling along at more than eight an over.

Grant went for a run-a-ball 18 which included three fours when he was bowled by Ryan Jackson.

Dean was in devastating form as he carted the Burgess Hill bowlers all over the park bringing up his 25 in just 14 balls with 22 of his runs coming from boundaries.

Jackson struck twice more to finish with brilliant figures of four overs, 3 -9.

Ford batted sensibly for his 9 off 19 balls before he was bowled by Joe Hartley (2-18).

Ditchling were also handed 31 extras to bring their total up to 136.

In reply, Burgess Hill could not have got off to a better start with both openers - Mason Foley and Lewis Mamoany - retiring not out.

Foley finished on 30 from 30 balls and Mamoany brought his 25 up in 27 balls. Ditchling's tidy bowling and sharp fielding stemmed the flow of runs and after seeing the back of the openers, not one Burgess Hill batsman managed to make it into double figures.

Jackson was trapped lbw for 0 and Ollie Read was clean bowled also for a duck.

Two run-outs accounted for Tom McCreadie (6) and Harrison Lees (3) before Joe Smith and Toby Fisher made their way back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers.

Kieran Dimelow battled for his 5 not out from 16 balls but ran out of partners when Tommy Bowles and Joe Hartley were both bowled for 0.
