ST JAMES’s Montefiore Cricket Club’s under-13s made St Peters Cricket Clubs bowlers pay as they recorded a massive 98-run victory.

Four St James’s batsmen retired not out after blasting 25 and the St Peters bowlers’ 40 extras guided their opposition to a mammoth 170 from 20 overs.

Bertie Donaldson won the toss and chose to bat, justifying his decision by smashing four boundaries in his 25 not out.

His opening partner Luke Heath joined him as he carted the St Peters bowling all over the park to reach his 25 not out.

St Peters bagged their first wicket when Jai Chayne was bowled by Joe Hayward for 16.

But there was little respite for the fielding team as Jay O’Neill joined his openers retired not out for 25.

Jake Riddell was run out by George Mitchell-Phillips for 3 before Andrew Young became St James’s fourth retiree with 26.

The tail was restricted to just 10 runs as James Hyde was bowled for 0, Stan Abbot-Stacey (3) and Jasper Sylvester (0) were both run out by Laurie Chrisp and Hannah Sutton (3) fell to Louis Wynne-Roberts.

Tight bowling and sharp fielding restricted St Peters to just 72-7 off their 20 overs with only three batsmen managing to make it into double-figures.

Jamie Morrish topscored with 16 before he was caught and bowled by Hannah Sutton (1-7) and his opening partner fell to Dale Stevenson for 10.

The middle order struggled against strong a strong bowling line-up with Joe Hayward, Chrisp, Ben Hayward and Hummd Ghouri all back in the pavilion without making a dent in the total.

George Mitchell-Phillips battled hard for his 11 not out, but the damage was already done and St James’s cruised to victory in the South Area Young Cricketers League Under-13 Division One.
