YOUNG Sussex footballers from Denton and South Heighton Junior Football Club (DaSH JFC) will say goodbye to one of youth football’s most inspiring couples after 10 years of service.

Chairman and secretary Laurence and Paula Woolven, from Telscombe Cliffs, have handed the reins to a new committee after being presented with a commemorative plaque and meal voucher by new chairman, Lee Tully.

The club and couple’s affiliation started when their son Kyle, now 15, joined the club and have held a variety of roles including fundraiser manager, press officer and child welfare officer while during their tenure the club have become a FA Charter Standard youth football club with over a hundred members.

Mr Woolven, 42, was named Sussex FA Coach of the Year in 2007 and Brighton and Hove City Sports and Physical Activity Awards Coach of the Year in 2009 while also taking part in a football masterclass with former England Manager Sven Goran Eriksson after being nominated by his team.

Mrs Woolven, also 42, raised more than £10,000 for the purchase of a changing room and toilet block at DaSH JFC's home, The Hollow, in 2008 and has organised countless activities for players including a club fun day that was attended by England '66 World Cup final hat-trick legend, Geoff Hurst in 2012.

The dedicated duo have since amassed over 6,000 hours of unpaid work although still find time to volunteer for Seaford Musical Theatre Juniors and Community Transport charity, CTLA as well as working and caring for their three children.
