Seventeen-year-old singing sensation Sam Tompkins is making some noise on the music scene after taking on the capital city.

The former Heathfield Community College student’s story started from his bedroom by uploading cover videos of popular artists such as Ed Sheeran’s Small Bump and Justin Timberlake’s Cry Me a River.

As his voice matured, he gained more views with each video he uploaded and at the beginning of the year he was invited up to Novacane Studios in London to progress his career.

At the same time Sam also began to stage live performances, his first being an open mic event at the end of February, which was a huge success.

Supported by close companion and now personal manager Connor Hunnisett, he was soon signed to independent record label Blue Mammoth Records.

This meant frequent trips up to London to attend studio sessions.

As Sam worked on finding his style and developing an original sound, his fan base grew to 35,000 followers in just eight months and he currently averages about 500 plays a day on SoundCloud.

The youngster released two of his own songs that were play-listed on London radio station Reprezent, which kick-started his career.

Big labels including Sony and SYCO have also showed an interest in Sam.

Trapped Magazine said: “His falsetto is unforgettable. He has all the ingredients it takes to go to the top.”

At the beginning of the month, the star took to the O2 Academy Islington alongside X-Factor competitors The Brooks and many other talented artists.

Next year he is set to release his debut EP in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust.

Sam still attends Sussex Downs College five days a week and busks frequently in Eastbourne and Brighton to help fund his travel expenses.
