SHOREHAM College’s swimming team swam to victory at the ISA National Championships with a haul of nine gold medals and one silver.

Held at the Olympic Pool for the first time, the pupils were even more determined to make their mark at this event, and they did not disappoint.

Mackenzie Cannon was weighed down with gold as he won the Year 7 boys breaststroke, the freestyle and was part of the relay team that won gold in the medley and freestyle.

His brother Eoghan Cannon was also on fire with two gold medals in the Year 6 backstroke and freestyle as well as setting a new national record in the backstroke.

Leah Hamilton swam sensationally to grab gold in the Year 8 breaststroke and another in the freestyle relay.

She also picked up silver in the medley relay.

Frankie Hatchard was the youngest Shoreham College student on the podium as she proudly donned the gold medal after clinching the Year 4 50m backstroke making her a national champion alongside her three schoolmates.

A number of swimmers narrowly missed out on the medals with Adam Rogers, Toby Adlam, and Jake Boddie joining Eoghan Cannon in fourth in the Year 6 freestyle relay.

Aidan Cannon just missed out when he came fourth in the Year 10 breaststroke, George Cameron came fifth in the Year 8 butterfly while Freya Simpson also came fifth in the Year 9 individual medley and seventh in the butterfly.

John Shelley, sports coach at Shoreham College, praised the team enough for their determination and team spirit and said: “Competing in the Olympic Pool was a well-deserved honour for these swimmers.

“They all trained so hard for this and swam amazingly on the day, everyone at the college is so proud of them.”
