STUDENTS have been given an Almaty boost ahead of their exams with a visit from Kazakhstani teachers.

The Sir Robert Woodard Academy made good use of its contact with Sussex University and its willingness to engage with education at all levels, by taking advantage of the opportunity to host ten visiting teachers from Kazakhstan.

The visitors are based at the university for the year as part of their work with regard to post graduate educational development.

The visit was organised by SRWA’s Department of Mathematics and included two interactive lessons.

The feedback from Sussex University was that the Kazakhstani teachers were “blown away” by the academy and the reception they were given. Department leader James Towner said it reflected perfectly the attitude of the new maths department and the ambitions of the whole school.

Headteacher Peter Midwinter added: “We were delighted to be given the opportunity to share our academy with the teachers from Kazakhstan.

“As an academy we are striving to be more internationally aware and are always looking for opportunities to provide our students with worthwhile cultural experiences.

“The dialogue and sharing of experiences by many of the academy students and staff made for a wonderful day and one we will look forward to repeating in the future as our partnership with the University of Sussex blossoms.”
