Tributes are pouring for the tree surgeon who died in an horrific chainsaw accident.

The man in his 20s from Eastbourne, who has not yet been officially named, died while working high in the branches of a tree at a private house in Park Gate, Hailsham this morning.

The experienced tree surgeon had what police officers have described as an industrial accident.

The company he worked for has been named locally as Allan Russell Tree Work, based in Polegate. The firm is believed to have a number of employees.

Paramedics reached the man on a firefighters' aerial ladder but were unable to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is being investigated by the Health and Safety Executive and Sussex Police.

One Argus reader said: "Tragic death, deepest sympathies for his family."

Jonny Dross, from Brighton, said: "All energies should be pointed towards this guy's friends and family... My condolences to them all."

Another tribute said: "This is a tragic accident and horrifying for anyone who knows the man. I saw him suspended up the tree this morning as I drove past and now knowing he died is horrific."

Another said: "This guy was my friend and his family is completed devastated."
