PEOPLE are being urged to avoid A&E departments over the Easter weekend unless it is an emergency.
East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust wants to keep its units free for those who really need them.
A&E should be used for serious or life-threatening situations.
These include severe chest pain, suspected heart, attack, stroke or meningitis, fractures and major burns, breathing difficulties, unconsciousness, heavy or uncontrolled bleeding, suspected drug overdose sudden and severe headaches and severe head injuries.
Patients who do not need to go into A&E with minor illnesses could be better treated by alternative health services such as their GP, a pharmacist, dentist, walk-in centre or minor injury unit.
Advice is also available by calling the NHS 111 helpine.
