MEMBERS of the 2017 Seaford Striders Couch to 5k group met up to celebrate the anniversary of their first meet up – and to toast a year spent keeping active through running.

The group changed out of their usual sports gear for a meal at Shah Jahan curry restaurant in Seaford, living up to the Club’s motto: “We don’t only run, we also have fun.”

Since the first Couch to 5k group was formed in March 2017, members who have joined through the popular beginner programme have progressed from their first 5k run, through to 10k races.

Some of the former Couch to 5k members have progressed with their running to complete half marathons.

Seaford Striders will be running the next Couch to 5k group on Tuesday April 17 at 7pm.

The programme will take place over nine weeks and follows the NHS Couch to 5k plan with the support of volunteers from the friendly, mixed ability running club.

The plan is designed to get just about anyone off the couch and running 5km in just over two months, under the encouragement and guidance of an experienced leader.

Members will start gently with plenty of built in rest stops.

Former Couch to 5k participant Becky Souissi said: “Taking part in Seaford Striders’ Couch to 5k programme was a brilliant experience. The support I gained – from our coach and from other newcomers - was excellent.

“I didn’t think I was a runner, but thanks to the programme, I am now much fitter and lighter (8st 3lb lighter to be exact!). It’s been a real investment in my health. I haven’t stopped at 5k either.”
