ORGANISERS of a sponsored walk are asking for energetic fundraisers to put on their boots and put their best foot forward for charity this summer.

The annual walk starts on Brighton beach before meandering across the South Downs, pausing for lunch and other refreshments before culminating in the village of Horsted Keynes.

Now in its fifth year, the Horsted Keynes sponsored walk takes place on Sunday, July 1, and is open to people of all ages and abilities who want to do their bit for a worthy cause.

Event organiser Paddy Herridge said: “This is a great opportunity to combine raising money for good causes with crossing the South Downs.

“The route we have put together is wonderful.”

The event grows in popularity year on year, having first taken place in 2012.

Paddy took on organising the event last year having previously taken part in the walk as a fundraiser.

He said: “The strength of taking part in this event is that the walk is group led.

“If one were to walk the South Downs alone they wouldn’t know the route or have the support.

“It’s a friendly event, it’s open to all, irrespective of ability and fitness so join in and have fun.

“What’s better than to raise cash for good causes while getting fit and hopefully enjoying a gorgeous day?”

Walkers can nominate their own good cause although organisers have in the past used the event to raise funds for Horsted Keynes’ church St Giles, the village pre-school and the village school’s PTA.

The church encompasses all generations with a strong youth involvement through its primary school and Sunday club.

The walk is around 20 miles in full from coast to village but organisers are keen to make clear that any walkers who would prefer to stop at any stage are welcome to do so.
