A MAN has died after being knocked down by a vehicle.

Emergency services were called to a report of a man lying in the carriageway on the A284 Lyminster Road near Littlehampton.

The victim, who is believed to be in his 50s or 60s, had been hit by a vehicle near to the Six Bells public house and sustained serious injuries.

A Sussex Police spokesman said the man died before reaching hospital.

The incident happened at around 7.15pm on Good Friday (March 25).

Police officers closed the road from the Crossbush roundabout to the Wick roundabout for several hours while emergency services, including air ambulance paramedics, were at the scene.

Details of the vehicle or whether it stopped at the scene have not been released.

The victim's identity has yet to be confirmed.
