A woman in her 50s was knocked unconscious after her long plaited hair got caught in a strimmer.
The woman's hair became entangled as she used the strimmer in Stone Pit Lane, Henfield.
She was knocked out but regained consciousness before West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service arrived.
She had not had it cut since she was 14 years old.
A fire service spokeswoman said: "The crew reluctantly made the decision to cut the hair using scissors.
"About 18 inches of hair was cut away, leaving her with about 14 inches of hair.
"She was checked over at the scene by ambulance paramedics but didn't go to hospital."
The incident happened at 4pm yesterday.
