A rare white squirrel has been captured on film by Argus photographer Terry Applin.

There is only a one in 100,000 chance of the animals being born albino.

Snapper Terry was shocked when he saw the squirrel scuttling down a tree at Highwoods Golf Club in Sidley, near Bexhill.

"I've been sent to all sorts of places in the past when we've had reports of albino squirrels and never managed to find one, so you can imagine how I felt when I spotted this one when I wasn't even looking,"

he said.

"Mind you, with the odds of seeing one, I'd rather have had my luck come up in the lottery."

There have been sightings of albino squirrels, which have red eyes as well as white fur, in Crawley, Eastbourne and Hailsham.

Several were known to be living in the Scrase Valley nature reserve near Haywards Heath, although park ranger Vanessa Head said they had not been seen for some time.

Miss Head said: "I've never seen one. It's definitely on my list of animals I'd like to see."
