MULTI-million pound proposals to improve the A27 will be scrutinised by councillors tomorrow.
Highways England’s scheme, which it estimates will cost £69 million, aims to reduce congestion on the Worthing to Lancing section of the A27, manage the impact of planned growth in the area and support the wider economy.
Highways England manages the A27 on behalf of the Government and launched a public consultation on the proposals on July 19.
This closes on Tuesday.
County council officers have considered the proposals on their technical merits and have also assessed them against Highways England’s objectives for the scheme.
The assessments and the council’s draft response to the consultation will be scrutinised by the county council’s environmental and community services select committee.
Councillor Bob Lanzer, council cabinet member for infrastructure and highways, said: “At the moment, we feel that while Highways England’s proposals are largely positive, the benefits they will yield are relatively modest and will quickly erode, with further improvements needed in the medium term.”
