Why did the chicken cross the road? To hand out lots of free chocolate.

The bizarre scenario was played out in Horsham as a teenager decided to dress like a chicken and hand out boxes of chocolates.

Scott Moyse, 18, had spotted a glitch on a social media site that was offering the boxes for a penny each. The usual retail price is £4.

He put in an order for 400 boxes at a cost of £10.90 - with delivery costing more than the chocolates themselves.

A couple of days later and a delivery driver turned up at his door bearing the boxes of treats.

Scott said: “My dad was a little surprised when 400 boxes of chocolate turned up at the door.”

Suddenly in possession of a lot of chocolates the teenager faced the dilemma of making a tidy profit or spreading some joy to the people of Horsham.

He said: “My friends said I should have sold them but I didn't need the money and thought I would just give them round and make other people happy.”

With the plan hatched, the only task was to ensure he had enough attention so his endeavours were not ignored.

And so he decided to dress as a chicken. His reasoning was as simple: “I wore the chicken costume because I had it and thought 'why not?'”

He headed to the streets of Horsham to hand out the fruits of his labour on October 12.

Scott said: “Reactions when we started were a bit mixed.

“Some people were a little confused as to why we were doing it and a couple of people wouldn't accept that we were just giving out boxes of chocolate.

“But it didn't take long for people to become interested. We must have only walked about 11 yards before they were all gone. It must have only taken about 20 minutes.

“Once one person took them everyone just flocked in like vultures. We gave out about 320 or so and I gave the rest to family and friends.”
