An elderly buggy rider has hit out at the terrible abuse she gets on the roads almost every day.

Widow Sara Wyness, 77, uses road-worthy scooter HOTBUG1 to go to the doctors, shops and see friends.

But she says ignorant drivers subject her to regular foul-mouthed rants over her presence on the road Mrs Wyness, of East Preston, said: “It’s absolutely terrible. They say the most awful things.

“You’re going along, minding your own business, and people shout ‘you belong under a lorry!’ “They say ‘get off the road, go back where you belong!’ “It gets a lot worse but I can’t repeat it. I just don’t understand why they use such foul language.

“I get so annoyed. I would have thumped one man if he’d stopped.”

Mrs Wyness was widowed 13 years ago and lives in Arun Court.

The ex-biker uses HOTBUG1 to make the seven-mile trip to Worthing.

Mrs Wyness added: “As you get older you get a bit desperate if you can’t get out. It’s my only way of getting around.

“Even pedestrians give you an awful lot of language and swearing.”
