Brighton and Hove has been named as the UK’s ghost capital.

Murdered publicans, ghoulish monks, and drowned sailors are all said to flit round the city’s streets and twitterns.

Now organisers of the first World Horror Convention said Brighton will be the only UK venue due to its high number of restless dead.

More than 300 horror aficionados will manifest in theThe Albion Hotel in the Old Steine, Brighton, before enjoying ghost walks and readings from star authors.

Members of the convention have already revealed some of the spectres they will be tracking when they visit between March 25-28.

Organisers claim sailors from the 12th Century ship Nicholas that sunk of the city’s can be seen uot at sea and the old brewer from the Black Lion in Black Lion Street, who was burnt at the stake in 1555 is still hanging around in the pub's cellar.

The sold out convention, whose members will fly in from round the world, is themed on 'Brighton Shock! - A Celebration of the European Horror Tradition from Victorian Times to the Present Day.'
