There wasn’t a sale on at the Co-op, nobody claimed to have found the 1983 Cup Final money and Jason Kitcat hadn’t announced every Brighton and Hove council tax payer could throw rotten eggs at him!

So, why did at least 20,000 of the season's-best 29,093 crowd leave the Amex ten minutes before the final whistle on Saturday against Ipswich? (Not forgetting of course five very generous minutes of injury time.)

I don’t recall anyone leaving the Goldstone before Dean Wilkins whipped in that free kick, also against Ipswich back in 91.

Did people leave the Cup Final early? I wish I had, although me and Gordon have now made it up.

I do remember quite a few were heading up Withdean  Road and down Tongdean Lane when Adam ‘you know’ Virgo popped that header in against Swindon - where were these people going? They all came flooding back , it was rumoured some couldn’t get back in.

Albion fans are getting a reputation for not staying the distance. If the team are losing with ten minutes to go, instead of shouting themselves hoarse they are horsing around the exits, desperate to get away from Falmer as quickly as possible.

You seldom leave the theatre early , or get up with ten minutes of a film remaining and exit the cinema. I can’t imagine anyone leaving a half finished main course in a restaurant , because they don’t live in Brighton and Hove  or are worried about the west coast way queues at Brighton station and they might miss The Voice.

Every ticket holder knows there the Amex is in relation to where they live. Maybe they are waiting for the Albion to wheel the stadium around the county, like the mobile club shop.

The club can do no more than they are in terms of match day travel; whenever you leave, you are going to have to queue at some point, even in Sing Li.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the Albion employed Jimmy Somerville, or at least Ian Hislop, to belt out ‘don’t leave me this way ‘ in an extra fan zone if things aren’t going Albion’s way next week against Middlesbrough in the battle of the shot-shy.

Maybe the club could get fans to scan out as well as in and penalise those who persistently leave early, maybe if occasion arises sell them a first half only play-off final ticket .

Please tell me no one will leave that game early.

So come on, lets have none of those white Seagull seats visible at 4.40pm next Saturday. Stay, get behind the team, enjoy the Amex.

We waited long enough for it.
