I refer to the article on Wednesday, July 22 by Ben Leo about the closure of Broadwater Cemetery.

It seems that Worthing Borough Council has never been keen on keeping this cemetery in good condition for many years now.

Instead, it appears the council prefers to spend their budget on the Durrington Cemetery at the entrance to Worthing, which is for show only.

According to The Argus article, family of loved ones resting in the Broadwater Cemetery in South Farm Road, said monuments had been damaged by weeds and the grass is overgrown.

They responded with a rubbish statement saying it would allow the site to become a “haven for wildlife and wild flowers to flourish”.

My family has three graves in this cemetery and for many years I have persevered to keep these neat and tidy.

A few years ago Tom Wye, a former Mayor of Worthing and Major in the Royal Engineers started a group called Friends of Broadwater Cemetery.

He also contacted The Commonwealth War Graves Commission' who cleaned up and restored numerous War Graves within the Cemetery.
