Your article in the Argus on August 9 was forwarded to me at Chepstow by a friend from Saltdean aware of my great interest in John Saxby.

How glad I am to see this railway signalling pioneer recognised with a blue plaque.

He started work at Brighton as a carpenter and rose to having factories in the UK and abroad. The firms he started were the origin of multinational firms of today.

I have had a lifelong interest in John Saxby. I have collected a number of articles and photos relevant to his work.

Now living in Monmouthshire, I visited the Patent Office at Newport and obtained copies of John Saxby’s beautifully illustrated pioneering patents.

As a collector of old glass photographic negatives, I have a number of photos of John Saxby’s first signalboxes at Brighton. One, taken in the early 1860s, was so good that I have had it enlarged to make an exhibition print about 5ft X 3ft.

I have exhibited this print and my memorabillia at local venues but I would like to find a permanent home for it all, where it could be seen by the wider public.

Can anyone suggest a suitable place or organisation that would give it the prominence it deserves in Brighton?
