Brighton & Hove Bus Co made a huge profit again last year so I believe it is only right that key workers ie drivers are properly remunerated. Bus drivers require a PCV license.
Skill is required to ferry the expensive cargo of people from A to B – hence a 3% pay rise backdated to April is not unreasonable.
Since I stopped commuting to London in 2009, I have got to know several drivers on the number one route, and I am aware money is only part of the problem.
Many drivers enjoy a degree of independence and routine, so not all wish to work on different routes.
Recently the company changed its policy on part-time working. This was an error.
Drivers in their fifties may wish to reduce the hours they work owing to health issues. Surely it is better to have two happy drivers working three days a week rather than one stressed driver working overtime.
