I felt quite ashamed and sorry for Best when he was substituted amidst boos and jeers (The Amex, Tuesday, against Huddersfield).

He was already playing under extra pressure after his manager singled him out in the Argus that evening and, quite honestly, the rest of our team were certainly ‘nothing to write home about’ even at that early time of the game.

One other point – when we were at Withdean we had the £1 lottery and, despite the capacity of the ground being only around 9.000 the prize was usually between £400 to £500.

All this season, with crowds always more than 20,000, the prize has still been only around £500 – on Tuesday it was even less with a gate of supposedly 23,000 plus! Is there an explanation for this?
