IN PAY accountability guidance to local authorities in the Localism Act (2011), ministers called upon councils to ensure that senior appointments and senior exit packages of £100,000 or more should be considered and voted on by full council before being rubber-stamped.

Will this happen with Penny Thompson’s pay-off of £269,000 – the equivalent of twenty years’ wages for the average council worker?

Can I ask how Warren Morgan intends to justify this to his voters in Whitehawk?

Will the Conservatives and the Greens, who form a majority on the council, vote against this package – almost three times the government’s recommended maximum?

If not, why not?

Will other Labour councillors vote in favour of this package?

If not, why not?

This is the second time that Ms Thompson has received a monster pay-off from a local authority in the last three years. How come?
